Shooting a short…
Wednesday marked another Restore NYC milestone–our first film shoot in the Safe House!
At 9am, Lance, Greg, and I met our actress and a film crew of four at the Restore NYC Safe House to shoot a short film about the Safe House and “Lisa,” one of Restore NYC’s clients and the first resident of the Safe House.
“Lisa” was lured to NYC and tricked into believing that she would be given a legitimate job. Instead, she was forced to work in a brothel in Queens. After she was arrested for prostitution, Restore NYC contacted her and began providing services that would give her a new life. “Lisa” is now on her way to a full recovery at the Safe House. With Dinah playing the role of “Lisa,” our hardworking DP and producer team (Tinx and Sam) pulled together different scenes around the Safe House. These scenes will be used with voice over provided by Faith and animation created by the talented Christen Smith.
In the afternoon, we drove back to Manhattan and set up at the Red Door Studio to shoot our interview with Faith. Nathan, the owner of the studio and our generous host, whipped up some of the best cappuccinos we’ve ever had–just the right pick-me-up we needed to finish the shoot. With cameras rolling, Faith talked about “Lisa,” the Safe House, and how Restore NYC has come a long way in fulfilling its mission. Close to 8pm, Tinx called it a wrap, and we all breathed happy sighs of relief. We’d made it to the end of our first film shoot.
The short film was conceived and produced by Christen, Tinx, Jon, and Sam in conjunction with the creative team here at Restore, and will premiere at Restore NYC’s second annual gala on March 24.
A huge thank you to all our volunteers who helped make this happen!
Please stay tuned for more updates about the gala, including a first look at our gorgeous event space, silent auction pieces, and the different artists whose artwork will be featured.
Thanks for reading!
